telnetd sous FreeBSD

Les anciennes versions de FreeBSD (en tout cas, antérieures à la 4.6-RELEASE) affichaient le type de système d'exploitation et d'architecture matérielle utilisés lors des connexions sur leur port Telnet.

Une option de lancement permet cependant de débrayer ces fuites d'informations :

# man telnetd
[...]
     -h      Disable the printing of host-specific information before login
	     has been completed.
[...]

Cette option peut être ajoutée dans le fichier /etc/inetd.conf :

telnet	stream	tcp	nowait	root	/usr/libexec/telnetd	telnetd -h
telnet	stream	tcp6	nowait	root	/usr/libexec/telnetd	telnetd -h

Derniers avertissements

Au-delà de ces considérations, essayez d'éviter le protocole Telnet chaque fois que possible (par exemple au profit de SSH), les identifiants et authentifiants utilisés passant en effet en clair sur le réseau...
